Insert

Meaning – The term insert, in the context of LANs, refers to the action of making an attaching device an active part of the LAN.

In general, the term insert is used to describe placing an object within another object.

Sometimes displayed as Ins, the term insert may also refer to the  Insert key, which is a key on most computer keyboards near or next to the backspace key. The Insert key toggles how text is inserted by inserting or adding text in front of other text or overwriting text after the cursor as you type.

Today, the Insert key’s function is most often used as a shortcut key.

Example of usage“If you have an Apple computer, Apple laptop (MacBook), or Apple keyboard, the Insert key is replaced by the Fn key. To simulate an Insert key on an Apple Mac keyboard, press the keyboard shortcut Fn + Enter.”
