Meaning – The term ‘double click’ refers to the action in which the user clicks on an element on the desktop, twice, using a pointing device, such as a mouse or a joystick, to trigger a certain action, depending on the element.
There are many different elements found on the graphical user interface of an operating system, and each of these elements is designed to perform a certain action if the user interacts with them in a certain way. The most common action in the interaction process is a double click.
The double click is most commonly used to start an application, or open a folder or a file.
Example of usage – “She installed the new software on her computer, and then navigated to the install folder and double clicked on the executable file to start the software on the PC.”
