How secure is Google Duo ?

When we talk about video call apps, the first question that comes to mind is – “How secure is it?”

As we all are aware, voice and video calls are used by people every second, everywhere on the planet, and the topics covered in these calls cover a large array of topics. Video calling takes things to the next level because now, the participants can see each other and their surroundings, within the call.

All of this is ok if it is localized, but what if a foreign agency were to get control of a transcript of your call, or even the multimedia content that may have been sent on your call? That opens you up to a lot of trouble in the long run, especially if the topics you spoke are of confidential nature.

A few years back, many social media platforms were found guilty of selling user data to interested parties, and as such, committed a direct invasion of the privacy of millions of users worldwide. No one knows how this data was used, but we can safely say that these social media brands opened Pandora’s box and they had to find a way to shut it.

The solution we have now is something brands like to call “End to End Encryption“. This means that when you are on a call with someone on a platform like Google Duo, the data and information and any other content related to the call is purely localized to just the participants of the call. The parent company will have no access to this, thus ensuring a level of privacy and security on the app.

Google Duo is a very popular voice and video calling app and is considered to be the only real competition to Apple’s Facetime app.

Users can enjoy HD Audio and Video calls and do not require an account to get started. While this in itself is more than enough reason to start using Duo, the most crucial feature is the security. All voice and video calls made through Duo offer end to end encryption, which means only you and the participants have access to the contents of the call. Yes, even Google does not have access to the content you have sent or the information you have shared on the calls.

In a world where privacy and security are paramount, Google Duo is right up there with the most secure apps in the market.
