Meaning – The term opportunity, refers to a menial task or difficult assignment that a manager wants to accomplish. In an organization, there are hundreds of tasks and projects to be completed, and it is practically impossible for the manager to complete them all single-handedly.
In order to get the tasks and projects completed, and also help the employees improve on their skill sets, he gives them all an opportunity to complete the tasks depending on their strengths. This serves two purposes – The job gets done and the employees undergo some much-needed self-development.
Sometimes the opportunities are plenty, while there are some situations where employees need to compete for opportunities to work on the assignment or project.
Example of usage – “Once she graduated from design school, she was looking for that one opportunity to show off her skills and attract some clients to get her business started.”
