Meaning – The term offering, refers to a product release that is performed by a company. The whole product cycle, from conception to final release, can take from a few months to even a few years. Once the company is satisfied with the end product, they do a scheduled release of the same to the public, and this is nothing but the latest offering of the company to the market.
The term offering may also refer to an IPO, where the company offers shares of stock to the public for the very first time. While not a computer term per se, many founders, employees, and insiders of computer companies have found this acronym more exciting than any tech term they ever heard.
Example of usage – “After having worked on the product for three years, the designer was very proud to see her work being released as an offering to the public.”
