Meaning – The term list button, refers to a button labeled with an underlined down-arrow that presents a list of valid objects or choices that can be selected for that field.
This is also a graphical element that is present in the UI of operating systems and standalone software packages, predominantly found in the drop-down menus.
Usually, when there is an option within a list, that also holds sub-options, then the designer bundles these sub-options and presents the user with a list button. When the user interacts with the list button, the sub-options are revealed.
Example of usage – “Since the menu had an option with ten sub-categories, the designer was told to replace the long list of sub-categories with a list button. This made the menu look clean and only revealed the sub-categories when the user interacted with the list button.”
