Meaning – The term k, K, refers to the lower case k is the internationally agreed abbreviation for the prefix kilo (as in kilometer or 1,000 meters). The upper-case K is never the correct abbreviation for kilo and has come to mean the number 1,024 (two to the power of ten), and a measure of computer memory (storage).
The term k, mathematically equates to 1000, while the term K, mathematically equates to 1024.
The two must never be interchanged while using units that make use of these terms, as the meaning totally changes and sometimes, does not even exist.
Example of usage – “While denoting the memory storage term in computers, you must always use K to mean Kilobytes. kilobytes will not be acceptable.”
