Initial Program Load

Meaning – The term initial program load, refers to the initialization procedure that causes an operating system to commence operation. When you boot up your computer, laptop, or even the smartphone, an initial program load operation is carried out, due to which the operating system that is loaded on the device is loaded and the initial functionalities are enabled.

The term initial program load also refers to the process by which a configuration image is loaded into storage at the beginning of a workday or after a system malfunction.

It is also known as the process of loading system programs and preparing a system to run jobs.
