Greenwich Mean Time

Meaning – The term GMT, or Greenwich Mean Time, is the standard time that is used to calculate the local time for the various different time zones.

This runs from the North Pole to the South Pole, passing through the Old Royal Observatory in the London suburb of Greenwich.

This line has been called the Greenwich Meridian since 1884, and it is from here that all terrestrial longitudes are measured and the world’s time zones are calculated.

Organizations around the world communicate the timing for their events in two formats, one in their local time, and one in GMT. People who live in other parts of the world can use the GMT value to figure out the time of the event in their respective locations.

Example of usage“The gaming event was going to be held in the USA and their invite had the time mentioned in GMT so that gamers around the world could join.”
