Meaning – The term golden diskette, refers to the market release version of a software package. Developers spend months or even years, developing new software, and through the process, they release test versions of the software for the test users, in order to get early feedback and bug reports. Once the software is polished enough for the general public, the developers release the polished code to the market. This version of the software, which is released for general consumer use, is called the golden diskette.
The golden diskette version of the software may not be totally error-free, but that is something that the developers can easily fix with updates.
Example of usage – “After spending a year working on the new design software, he was finally ready with the golden diskette version for the general public.”
