Go to the Mat

Meaning – The phrase ‘go to the mat’, refers to the situation wherein the matter is disputed by taking it up with the superiors within the organization. There are many matters that go on within an organization, especially within project groups, wherein two employees, or an employee and the manager are at loggerheads over a decision. At times, the suggestions given by the employee are in the best interest, but for some reason, it is not considered by the manager. In such cases, the employee may choose to go to the mat and take up this argument with the superiors.

Example of usage“He knew the reason for the failure of the module, but even after repeated requests, his suggestion was rejected by his reporting manager. In order to make a stand, he decided to stick to his views and go to the mat against the manager.”
