Meaning – The term glass house, refers to the containment area within an organization, where all the networking hardware and equipment are stored. This equipment includes routers, switches, and even firewalls. It may even play host to the mainframe that forms the core of the company’s IT infrastructure.
A glass house is also referred to as a server room and server closet. The reason that this area is called a glass house is that equipment is often in an isolated room with glass windows which allow people to look in without disrupting anything.
Today, the glass house facility is also known as a server farm.
