Event

Meaning – The term event, refers to an action or occurrence within a program or a platform, that has a direct consequence on the rest of the system.

In the Tivoli environment, the word event refers to any significant change in the state of a system resource, network resource, or network application. An event can be generated for a problem, for the resolution of a problem, or for the successful completion of a task.

Events can be user-generated, such as keystrokes and mouse clicks, or system-generated, such as program loading, running out of memory, and errors. No matter the event may be, it almost always has an impact on the system or the OS in some way or the other.

Example of usage “common examples of events are the normal starting and stopping of a process, the abnormal termination of a process, and the malfunctioning of a server.”
