Meaning – The word escalate, refers to the process of taking a particular matter of debate, to the higher authorities for resolution. This is usually done in an organization or between a client and the service provider when a particular subject matter is not resolved at the usual level. Escalating the matter means the matter is then taken up by a person who is higher in the hierarchy than the individual who was originally assigned to provide assistance.
Usually, when a matter is escalated, it is automatically assumed in a negative sense and displays the inability of the employees to carry out a given task.
Example of usage – “She tried to follow up with the computer dealership regarding the repair of her laptop, and when she did not get a response despite several attempts, she escalated the matter to the higher authorities.”
