Meaning – When a machine or software faces an error, it is important that steps are taken to help recover the affected component and return it to working condition. Usually, the manufacturer of the hardware or the developer of the application prescribes a set of procedures that can be performed by the user, in order to fix or mitigate the effects of the error, until more concrete steps can be taken from their end. The steps prescribed, or the steps performed to isolate and, where possible, recover from errors in equipment or the software application, are collectively known as the error recovery procedures.
Example of usage – “The manufacturer suggested that the users perform the prescribed error recovery procedures before coming to the service centers for assistance. This allowed the easy segregation of fixable errors from long-term effect errors.”
