Drive Designation

Meaning – A drive designation, or a drive letter, is a single alphabetic letter (A to Z), that is assigned to a drive or a partition in a computer system.

There are inbuilt storage drives and partitions, while there are some drives that are peripherals that users can attach to the computer, using the designated ports. In order to help the user to identify each drive, the system designates an alphabet, and any commands or operations that the user wants to perform on a particular drive must be done in the corresponding named drive folder.

Example of usage“Since she had connected multiple drives as peripherals to her computer, she had to remember the alphabetic drive designation for each of them, in order to avoid confusions during data transfer.”
