Meaning – A downstream device, is a hardware device that allows for downstream action between the server and the user. The most common example of such a device pertains to that of the IBM 3710 network controller.
For the IBM 3710 Network Controller, the downstream device is a device located in a network so that the 3710 is positioned between the device and a host. A display terminal downstream from the 3710 is an example of a downstream device.
A downstream device is also defined as an application or platform that has an identity created with the Azure IoT Hub cloud service. In many cases, these applications use the Azure IoT device SDK.
Example of usage – “When she was setting up her home office, one of the things she needed the most, was a downstream device, that would help her download data from the server to her PC.”
