Meaning – Domain search, refers to the process where the network sends out a search request, when the domain name being requested is not registered within the database.
Domain search also refers to the process of searching and verifying whether a desired domain name is available for registration. Usually, whenever a new website is being taken online, the first step involves purchasing and registering a domain name. However, there is a chance that the desired domain name may already web in use on the internet, and thus, in order to avoid a conflict, the entity that issues the domain name, performs a domain search, and tells the user whether the desired domain name is available for use or not.
Example of usage – “She was trying to name her website after her own name, but had to perform a domain search to see if it was available for use.”
