Meaning – The term document type, refers to the type of data in a particular Printing Systems Manager (PSM) document. It is very important to specify the document type, as it is not always necessary that the content needs to be printed out. IN such cases, in order to avoid confusion, the document type is given a lot of importance.
The best way to explain this is to consider this comparison –
a print file document contains only printable data, and a print resource document contains only data such as fonts or form definitions that are not printable.
Example of usage – “She received a bunch of new data to study, and the first thing she had to do was to determine the document type and decide which of those documents were to be printed and which were to be retained for future use.”
