Document Root Directory

Meaning – A document root directory, is a directory or a folder that is stored on the host server and its main responsibility, is to hold the webpages of a website. If you have a website for your business or blog, the web pages for the same will be stored in a document root directory, and when visitors come onto your website, this is the location that they will be accessing.

It takes a lot of effort to create a website, but in order to make it accessible to visitors, it must be saved inside this document root directory.

In a computer system, the root directory is the top-level directory of a file system. All other directories within a volume are “branches” or subdirectories of the root directory.

Example of usage“When she visited her favourite website, she did not realise that she was actually visiting the web pages stored in the root directory of that website.”
