Meaning – A document root directory, is a directory or a folder that is stored on the hostserver and its main responsibility, is to hold the webpages of a website. If you have a website for your business or blog, the web pages for the same will be stored in a document root directory, and when visitors come onto your website, this is the location that they will be accessing.
It takes a lot of effort to create a website, but in order to make it accessible to visitors, it must be saved inside this document root directory.
In a computer system, the root directory is the top-level directory of a file system. All other directories within a volume are “branches” or subdirectories of the root directory.
Example of usage – “When she visited her favourite website, she did not realise that she was actually visiting the web pages stored in the root directory of that website.”
