Meaning – Distributed computing, also known as distributed processing, is defined as the phenomenon where multiple computer systems across different networks, are used to work on a single application, in order to run the application or gain the desired outcome out of a process, in a faster time frame.
In the beginning, each individual computer was responsible for running processes on the same, and this led to many limitations, the biggest of which was the limitation on the processing power. However, thanks to the evolution in the processing technology, it is now possible to use the computing power of computer systems around the world, to help run a process on a single computer system.
The users who are interested in participating in distributed processing, can choose how much processing power they want to dedicate from their systems.
Example of usage – “Computer users around the world attempted to use distributed processing to help find a cure for the ongoing virus.”
