Meaning – The word display can be understood on two levels. First, the term ‘display’ can be used to refer to the hardware device, that is used to display the desired content. The monitor of a computer, or even a TV constitute displays.
The word ‘display’ can also be referred to the process of showing the data or files that are stored on the computer. When a user is operating a GUI based computer operating system, there are many UI elements and windows that he/she needs to see, in order to interact with them and perform the desired activity.
The display makes this possible, by acting as an output device and showing the user exactly what is being used and what is active.
Example of usage – “He decided to buy a new display for his computer, as he was unable to see anything on the existing display, as it had become old, and was malfunctioning.”
