Meaning – The term device class, describes the type of devices in use. In the context of computers, more specifically USB devices, the device class describes the type of peripheral device that plugs into a USB port. Defined by the USB Implementers Forum, device classes provide the specifications for a standard set of drivers for common peripherals.
In case that a certain peripheral doe snot conform to the standard defined devices classes, its must bundle the specific drivers, in order to work on the specific operating system.
Similar classifications are also available for other input devices as well as output devices. It is mandatory for brands to make sure that their products conform to the device classes, in order tot be considered authentic, in the market.
Example of usage – “When the company had prepared their products for the input device market, they had to provide information regarding the classes if the input devices that they had made.”
