Data Communication

MeaningData communication refers to the transfer of data between the functional unit of a computer system(Source and Receiver), by means of data transmission according to a protocol.

The communication of data may happen between two computers using mediums such as wires or through wireless technology. If the various systems are within the same geographical area, the communication is also known as local data communication.

In this process, the device that transmits the data, is known as the source, while the device that receives the data, is known as the receiver. Data communication only focusses on the transfer of data, and not the devices themselves.

There are various data communication techniques, that have evolved over the years, either to improve the setup that is available, or replace it with better alternatives.

Example of usage“A data communication system may collect data from remote locations through data transmission circuits, and then outputs processed results to remote locations.”
