Customer Information Control System (CICS)

Meaning – The IBM CICS (Customer Information Control System), is a family of mixed language servers that provide online transaction management. Additionally, the CICS also provides connectivity for applications on IBM mainframe systems under z/OS and z/VSE.

The CICS products are designed to act as middleware and support rapid, high-volume online transaction processing. A CICS transaction is a unit of processing initiated by a single request that may affect one or more objects.

CICS authorises users, allocates resources (real storage and cycles), and passes on database requests by the application to the appropriate database manager (such as DB2).

Example of usage“A CICS application is a collection of related programs that together perform a business operation, such as processing a travel request or preparing a company payroll.”
