CD-ROM

Meaning – The word CD-ROM, refers to the type of computer memory that can be read by optical drives. It stands for compact disk read only memory and was one of the major sources of storage devices used y computers to read and write data.

In the past, content like songs, videos, documents and even video games, were burnt into a CD, and distributed across the world. The most amazing thing about CD-ROMs was that they were available in almost every hardware or stationary store, making it one of the most widely used storage devices. The only downside was that these CDs were subject to wear and tear, and if they got scratches or small cracks, the whole CD was rendered useless.

Today, CDs have been replaced by USB devices.

Example of usage“Most of the data in the organisation archives, were stored on CD-ROMs.”
