Meaning – The word bogey, refers to a target, usually quantitative, that is particularly an unpleasant one. Usually, when an organisation sets the yearly objectives and targets to achieve, for the various divisions, there are some targets, that are easy to achieve and offer a lot of upside in terms of the development of the employees. However, there are some targets to objectives that are not the best, but have to be achieved for the sake of the organisation.
These targets are referred to as bogeys, and mostly, hold no potential for the growth of the employees, as it is just something they want to avoid or get done as soon as possible.
Example of Usage – “When the developer received the new set of targets to achieve, he realised that some of these targets were guaranteed bogeys.”
