American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

Meaning – The American National Standards Institute, or ANSI is an organisation comprised of producers, consumers and target user groups that establishes the procedures by which accredited organizations create and maintain voluntary industry standards in the United States.

It is a private, non-profit organisation, that collaborates with stakeholders from industry and government to identify and develop standards- and conformance-based solutions to national and global priorities.

Contrary to popular belief, the ANSI is not the body that actually sets the standards. Rather, the organisation provides the framework and the skeleton around which the standards are prepared by the competent authorities.

The Institute brings together private- and public-sector experts and stakeholders to initiate collaborative standardization activities that respond to national priorities.

Through its membership, partnerships, and diverse programs and activities, ANSI represents the interests of more than 270,000 companies and organizations and 30 million professionals worldwide
