Denkiworks, a New Kyoto-Based Indie Game Studio, Announces Project Tanuki

Kyoto-based indie game studio Denkiworks has been founded by experienced developers Liam Edwards, Taki Arioka, and Jan de Graaf, who previously worked together on Apple Arcade titles such as Pixeljunk Scrappers and Cursed to Golf. The three developers met while working at Q-Games and Chuhai Labs in Kyoto and decided to reunite to form their own studio.

Denkiworks aims to create innovative games that embody a unique “East meets West” perspective. The team’s newest title, codenamed Project Tanuki, is inspired by the Japanese countryside and rural culture. While specific details about the game are still under wraps, it is described as a love letter to Japan and its rich cultural heritage.

Designer Liam Edwards expressed the team’s excitement about their first project, stating that Project Tanuki is inspired by their experiences of life in Japan from both an expat and native perspective. The game will explore an idealized vision of Japan, particularly its beautiful countryside, which has been popularized in art and media over the centuries.

As a young and ambitious indie studio, Denkiworks is looking to make its mark on the gaming industry with unique and captivating experiences. Players eager to learn more about Project Tanuki and the studio can keep an eye out for further updates and announcements from Denkiworks.
